ABOUT THE WORK

Chris Groschner, artist

“Over time, Chris Groschner’s collages have evolved from being contained within a traditional frame and behind glass into pieces that escape the frame, expanding and altering the viewer’s relationship with the pieces. Surrealist, Steampunk meets Beetlejuice, and psychological landscapes are a few phrases that may come to mind. You will not encounter this world in real life.”

M. Nielsen, Towle Hill Studio

Chris grew up drawing and building “stuff” in suburban Detroit. He met his mentor, lithographer Emil Weddige, while still in high school. Chris taught art at the University of Michigan, where he received his bachelor of science in design and a master of fine arts degree. He turned his expertise into a career in print advertising and for 20 years was a managing partner at Graphic House Inc., a well-known studio that produces art and photography in Detroit for the auto industry. He lives in Corinth, Vermont with his wife Holly.
